In November 2000, my daughter, Gi’Anna, was born. At 3 months old, she was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis (eczema). We would try various ointments, creams, and eventually, steroidal ointments (with the knowledge that long term use of steroids would further damage her skin), all trying to bring relief to her problem skin. While trying these treatments, I learned that there are different degrees of eczema and everyone’s eczema is brought on by different triggers and since everyone’s skin is different, their responses to treatment may be different.
As time went by, I started to look into the ingredients that made up the creams and ointments that was recommended for my daughter’s skin as well as the products that I was putting on my skin and I realized that, these products were made up of mainly synthetic/chemical ingredients that were harsh to the skin, clogged the pores and sometimes, caused breakouts. I began to research natural ingredients, such as butters, herbs and oils that held beneficial properties for the skin. I started to blend these ingredients together to form creams and lotions. I would test them on family and friends, and lastly, I would try them on my daughter, Gi’Anna. The results were marvelous. Family and friends started putting in orders and Gi’Anna was finally able to get some relief for her sensitive skin. With the success of the creams and lotions, I began to make body scrubs, face and body cleansers and much more, all using natural ingredients. I named this line of products, Body Indulgence and began to sell them through family and friends. I had already had a small business selling my handcrafted jewelry, Tieast, The Essence of Design, in small boutiques, street fairs and events. I put the two lines together to form,The Essence of YOU! Offering luxurious skincare to nourish your skin and artwork to adorned the body.
